About the Opportunity
Orano Canada is currently looking for Intermediate or Senior Metallurgists/Process Engineers to join our team in McClean Lake, SK, on a fly-in, fly-out rotational basis with on-site camp facilities. Please note that flights to McClean are only coordinated from Saskatoon, Prince Albert, La Ronge, Buffalo Narrows, and the designated communities in the Athabasca region of Camsell Portage, Uranium City, Stony Rapids, Fond du Lac, and Wollaston. Candidates will be working 11-hour days, with a flexible on/off rotation, dependent on needs.
The Metallurgist/Process Engineer will work under the Senior Metallurgist/Process Engineer to conduct metallurgical test work. The Senior Metallurgist/Process Engineer will provide direct supervision and performance feedback for the Metallurgists and Metallurgical Technician, while taking ownership of the Metallurgical Lab and filling in as the primary department representative and point of contact when the Technical Superintendent is not on site.
More specifically, your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Actively demonstrate a commitment to Safety and Environmental stewardship
- Comply with all company health, safety, environmental, and ethics policies, practices, and procedures
- Assist with planning, scheduling, and coordination of Metallurgy personnel and resources
- Help coordinate activities, information, materials or resources within the team to meet deadlines related to routine activities and annual objectives
- Ensure cross-checks are completed as related to routine reporting
- Review reports and trends of mill performance and reagent consumption and propose areas for improvement
- Provide input to the annual budgeting process, including identification of infrastructure and training which aligns with group objectives and personal development goals
- Develop and apply working knowledge and expertise in process design and metallurgical unit operations, and provide formal and informal training to others
- Develop and apply working knowledge of the process data systems (data historian, SQL/Access, and visualization tools) to support reporting, troubleshooting, and investigative functions of the role
- Timely delivery of mill metallurgical accounting and performance reporting, including updating production/reagent forecasting
- Review and update of Mill Sampling and Operating Guidelines, with follow-up on conformance
- Work within and support the Change Control process
- Support commissioning of new equipment/systems
- Apply investigative and continuous improvement principles at the personal, group, and operational levels
- Provide technical support/context to all mill departments (Operations, Maintenance, Safety, Environment, etc.) in an expedient and sustainable manner
- Liaise with corporate and/or external resources as required
More About You
In order to qualify for the Metallurgist role, you will need a Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering, along with 4 years of industry experience.
In order to qualify for the Senior role, you will need a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering, along with 8 years of industry experience, preferably within both operational and engineering environments, with experience in hydrometallurgy. A minimum of 5 years of leadership/supervisory experience is required, along with the leadership style and experience to engage employees and resources at all levels of the organization.
Candidates are required to be eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with APEGS.
The following skills, knowledge, and education are strong assets:
- Proficient in the conventional unit processes in mineral processing and hydrometallurgy
- Uranium ore processing experience
- Experience in project management
- Proficient in working with Microsoft Office suite of products and ability to learn other applications as required
- Working knowledge of the process data system SQL/Access and OSIsoft PI
- Experience and knowledge of industrial processes and process equipment
- Experience in OSIsoft PI, including PI Asset Framework and PI Vision
- Ability to innovate in the areas of uranium processing with a focus on plant efficiency, capital and operating cost optimization, and compliance with environmental regulations
- Working knowledge of risk assessment (HAZID/HAZOP)

Further, you possess excellent planning and organization skills, with strong oral and written communication ability.
